During the first trimester, I couldn’t stand the smell of cooking and was only able to eat empty carbs like pasta and bagels. Thankfully, I’ve been able to return to a normal diet since my first trimester. With a squished stomach in the third trimester, I find myself eating smaller portions more frequently. Here’s what I eat in a day:
I wake up so hungry and often need to eat something right away. I leave an apple on my nightstand to eat before breakfast is prepared.
Before I was pregnant, I really liked oatmeal, but now I love eggs. I have two or three pieces of toast, one whole avocado mashed with cilantro, lemon, salt and pepper, and a couple of eggs on top.
Lunch is usually rice with veggies, meat and cheese or something to make it flavorful like curry.
A common snack for me is yogurt or cottage cheese with some fruit or peanut butter. I’ve also been making a lot of smoothies (with yogurt, berries, peanut butter and milk) and fresh juices (beet, apple, carrot, celery, spinach, lemon and strawberry).
Dinner consist of steak, veggies and potatoes. I’ve been craving a lot of steak and salt lately.
Whatever I have in the house like a bowl of cereal, granola with yogurt and fresh fruit, or ice cream serve as late-night snacks.
It’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day. And while there’s no magic cure for morning sickness (wouldn’t that be nice!), the trick that worked for me was to keep food in my stomach. It may sound counterintuitive, but if I ate something whenever I felt sick, that helped.
